Karpos General

Karpos Ministry is primarily about establishing relationship and solidarity with those who are homeless in the Painesville area. With the help of those who are or have been homeless, we prepare and serve a community meal. The meal is served outside, rain or shine, allowing us to meet people on their “turf” and visit with them. We serve, on average, 85 to 125 meals per night, four nights per week (Monday-Thursday).

Meal preparations begin around 3:30. On Mondays and Tuesdays, food is prepared at St. James Episcopal Church then served in their parking lot around 5:00. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, the kitchen at the Family Center of St. Mary’s Catholic Church is used and meals are served in the St. Mary’s parking lot around 5:00. At the meals, we visit with each other, serve food, and distribute items such as pre-packaged snacks, toiletries, gloves, blankets, clothes, sleeping bags, coats, sweatshirts, and socks, depending on what has been donated.

DONATE: If you are organizing an event and have leftovers, or if you have a surplus from a home/community garden, we’d be happy to accept your donations. We are often able to utilize or pass out food the same day that we receive it.

COLLECT: Do you have a group that would like to organize a collection drive? We are always in need of socks, toiletries, and pre-packaged snacks. During the winter months, hats, gloves, blankets, and sweatshirts are helpful.
